3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tapes
Technologies
3M™ bonding tapes represent the most complete line of advanced acrylic and
rubber adhesive tape systems available in industry today. Generally speaking,
acrylic adhesive systems offer the customer the best in shear performance,
environmental resistance and long term bond performance. Whilst rubber adhesive
systems offer high initial tack and are particularly suitable for lower weight
internally situated applications, 3M bonding tapes utilise a range of
technologies and come in a variety of thicknesses.
3M™ VHB™ Tapes
High strength VHB tapes are used in applications that require strong, permanent
bonds with high shear and peel adhesion. These products are most suitable for
heavy industrial use or external environments. VHB tapes distribute stress
along the bondline. The 'viscoelastic' nature of the solid glue system allows
for the adhesive to flow into the microscopic surface of the material to be
bonded thus providing 100% 'wet out', resulting in much greater bond
performance.

These products are conformable dark
grey acrylic foam tapes with a plasticiser resistant adhesive; in addition the
adhesive composition makes the 3M VHB™+ tapes ideal for many paints including
powder coated paints and improve the 3M VHB™performance on some plastics
particularly polycarbonate. Due to improved conformability a more
complete bond contact area is attained. 4943 and 4957 are conformable
tapes with a low temperature acrylic adhesive which allows initial applications
to be made at temperatures as low as 0°C.

3M™ Double Coated Foam Tapes
3M™ Scotch-Mount™ double coated foam tapes are available in a variety
adhesive-foam combinations to match your special needs. The foam carriers are
conformable and flexible, and are ideal for gap filling and bonding irregular
surfaces. Foam tapes have properties other than simply bonding. The tape
cushions the joint against shock loads and provides sound and vibration damping
and can provide an effective thermal seal between cold metals and warmer
plastics.

3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tapes
3M adhesive transfer tapes are manufactured as a strip of pure acrylic adhesive
which you can apply simply and quickly. The adhesive film 'wets out' the
surfaces fully, resulting in high bond performance. They adhere well to most
surfaces including paper, foil, wood, plastic and metal. The 3M 'A.T.G.™'
adhesive transfer gun tape dispenser, allows for the application of a neat
strip of adhesive where you want it, at speed, with no mess to clean up.
