3M Glass Cloth Tapes
The preferred choice for many applications requiring tensile strength,
temperature performance and flame resistance, such as thermal spraying.
-
Tensile Strength - Where tensile strength is a requirement, nothing
outperforms a glass cloth backing. This type of backing can have tensile
properties seven times higher than polyester.
-
Temperature Resistance - For applications that require resistance to
temperatures in excess of 205°C, for up to one hour, a glass cloth backing
should be evaluated. For intermittent exposures, even higher temperature
resistance levels can be achieved.
-
Flame Resistance - For applications that require a tape to pass a US FAA
regulation regarding flame retardance, 3M 367FR Tape should be evaluated.

3M Metal Foil Tapes
The preferred choice for many electroplating masking applications requiring
excellent chemical resistance. Where low vapour transmission is required these
tapes form an excellent seal. They are also excellent for thermal conduction,
heat and flame protection and weather resistance.
-
Aluminium Foil Tapes
-
Moisture and Chemically Resistant - Helps seal and protect many sensitive
assemblies and surfaces.
-

increasing the transmission over a broader area.
-
Heat and Light Reflective - Helps protect plastic components from heat warpage.
Can help to improve visibility by magnifying light sources.
-
Flame Resistant - Helps protect parts from flame damage.
-
Outdoor Performance - Resists U.V. degradation and provides long lasting
service.
-
Lead Foil Tapes
-

3M Polyester Tapes
The preferred choice for many electroplating and high temperature masking
applications requiring thin caliper, tensile strength, and a fine line. The
good long term ageing of these tapes also make them ideal for splicing, sealing
and holding.
-
Thin Caliper - For many applications requiring thin caliper, such as
butt splicing, tape thickness can be critical. A polyester backing can be as
thin as 0.025mm, yet still have very high dimensional strength properties.
-
Tensile Strength - For many applications that require thin caliper and
very high tensile properties, a polyester backing can be ideal. With tensile
properties ranging from 350 N/100mm (0.025mm backing thickness) to 2100 N/100mm
(0.125 backing thickness), polyester films provide some of the strongest
backings available.
-
Long Term Ageing - The ageing characteristics of our acrylic adhesives
allow these products to work well for many long term holding and decorative
applications. Where long term clarity is a requirement, transparent polyester
backings, coated with acrylic adhesives, should be evaluated.
-
Temperature Resistant - For many applications that require exposure to
temperatures up to 175°C, for up to one hour, polyester backings can deliver
excellent performance.

3M Protective Tapes
Polyurethane protective tapes for long-term protection from weathering and
abrasion.
Polyethylene protective tapes for protection of goods during manufacture and
transit, also providing clean and easy removal.
Our range of Protective Tapes are designed to protect critical surfaces against
abrasion and scratching during fabrication, assembly and shipping. The range of
temporary protective tapes peel off easily, leaving no residue. These tapes
unwind smoothly and evenly to facilitate production use.

3M Slick Surface Tapes
The preferred choice for many applications for reducing wear, friction, noise,
and chemical degradation of surfaces. Commonly used on conveyors, drawer
runners and for roller wrapping applications.
The 3M family of slick surface tapes consists of two related product lines with
their own special attributes: PTFE and UHMW-PE tapes. Each has products with
tailored features for specific application tasks.
The PTFE line offers excellent temperature resistance and the lowest
coefficient of friction (COF). The UHMW-PE line approaches the PTFEs in COF
slipperiness, but it is specially engineered to be extremely abrasion
resistant.
3M PTFE Tapes
-
Low Coefficient of Friction - "Self lubricating" nature of
PTFEfilm tape can improve the processability of many web materials.
-
Superior Heat Resistance - High temperature PTFE glass cloth tape
provides long lasting service on many heat sealing machines.
-
Anti-Stick/Release - Release nature of PTFE film tape facilitates
clean-up of hot plastic extrusion coating by not allowing plastic build-up on
rollers.
-
Chemical Resistance - PTFE film tape provides a chemical barrier for
harsh design environments.
-
Conformability - PTFE film tapes hug rollers for easy application and
effective service.
3M UHMW-PE Tapes
-
Abrasion Resistance - UHMW-PE tapes help protect plastic and metal
chutes, guide rails and containers from wear.
-
Low Coefficient of Friction - This feature, combined with abrasion
resistance, can offer an effective solution for many noise and vibration
problems.
-
Anti-Stick/Release - UHMW-PE tapes provide an easy clean-up surface for
many coating or bonding applications involving various inks, glues or sealants.

3M Vinyl Tapes
The preferred choice for many electroplating and fineline masking applications
requiring conformability, clean removal, abrasion and chemical resistance. The
wide variety of colours available also make these tapes ideal for aisle and
floor marking.
-
Conformable - For many applications such as fineline paint masking, can
sealing, surface protection and identification, no backing type out-performs
vinyl.
-
Clean Removal - For many applications it is important that no adhesive residue
is left on the surface after removal. Our specially formulated adhesive systems
have been successfully used for many years in applications requiring clean
removal.
-
Colour Coding - The different colours available with 3M 471 Tape, make this
product ideal for many of your colour coding, identification and decorative
requirements.
-
Abrasion Resistant - The "colour throughout" concept used in
manufacturing 3M vinyl backings extends the life of these products for many
applications that require resistance from abrasion, such as aisle marking.
-
Chemical Resistant - The chemical resistance of vinyl backings make these
products ideal for many applications, such as metal plating, that involve
exposure/resistance to chemical environments.
